Mermaid it up (again)

After what was my best night of sleep in the entire trip, we got ready, and went downstairs for breakfast. When they say the hours are 6-9, they are not joking. Promptly at 8:59:10am, the doors to the side room with the food slid shut. I actually had an inkling of a thought to get some yogurt with fruit and granola, but I was faced with the snooze/lose conundrum.

Once we had cleaned up our area, we loaded the car to try and find some more wildlife. It was raining, and the clouds were low, so visibility was extremely poor. We did show Pat the Old Valdez location, but otherwise, wildlife viewing was poor. Carrie did notice she had one more location on her list for us to find, and we headed there.

Valdez and its bay were formed by the action of the Valdez Glacier. It has retreated over the years, and feeds a lake which drains into a river. We drove down the pavement, then gravel, then lunar surface which led to the glacier lake. The fog was wispy throughout the iceberg-strewn body of water. The water was so still that when I took pictures on my trusty iPhone 12 Pro Max, I knew that I had won photo of the day. This is a contest that didn’t exist, but if it did, I would have won…in my opinion.

After we were done at the lake we returned to the hotel, and set up shop in the breakfast room. Emma had some college work to do, and the rest of us got a game of spades going. We used my trusty Dark Side Star Wars playing cards. We had a good game, and Pat and Les even successfully pulled off a blind-low hand. Carrie and I did end up winning, but it was close.

Then Carrie and Pat started working on pictures, and I had some recreational screen time. When it was time for dinner, we started off towards a renowned taco truck - Nat Shack, which ended up to be closed. So, since our meal was really good last night, and Pat missed out, we went back to The Fat Mermaid. I got my prime rib philly, which Les ordered again as well. We finished, then went back to relax at the hotel. We have a long drive tomorrow, so it is nice to wind down early tonight.
